In March of 2017 WPPS, along with the NC State University College of Education hosted a summit with the purpose of creating action teams charged with bringing about real change in four areas:
- Increase access to effective out-of-school and service learning opportunities.
- Increase awareness, access, utilization and assessment of college and career readiness resources.
- Develop and expand extended learning opportunities (such as summer and intersession programs and alternatives to suspension).
- Promote and enhance family engagement to ensure student success.
The event was a success, but only the beginning. The work continues as the action teams are now convening to develop strategies and metrics to help us reach our goals. These teams are comprised of educators, community leaders and various Wake County organizations dedicated to preparing our youth for postsecondary success!
